....................................................................................... 1. Look For Me On The Campaign Trail With the May 6 Primary Election less than two months away, the political season is in full swing. There's a Fish Fry in a church basement every Friday from now until Election Day; a Saturday full of important Saint Patrick's Day events; two more Democrat Club meetings are slated; an April 1 Candidate Night at the Senior Citizen's Center will be hosted by Farrington's Grove Historical District; and more invitations are arriving weekly. It's going to be a busy spring! Although I have participated in local politics for over 20 years, the reality of being a candidate for City Council adds an exciting dimension to my grass-roots political experience. As a five-year Democratic Precinct Committeeperson for 5-C, I was one of the hundreds of people who organize and run local polling places almost every spring and fall. That position brought me into direct contact with many of my neighbors, and taught me sobering lessons about how few of us actually vote. The different roles I have played in the electoral process have prepared me well for my first step into running for office, and many recipients of this newsletter have responded with encouraging words and generous donations. I hope that you will seek me out on the campaign trail this spring, and tell me what issues are most important to you. Feel free to contact me directly, too--I'm running to represent you! .............................................................................. 2. Check Out The New District Map Are you wondering which of Terre Haute's six City Council district races you will vote in on Election Day? Many of us don't know which precinct or district we live in, or even who our council representative is. The May 6 Primary will be our first election since last year's state-mandated redistricting, so almost everyone needs to check a good map to make sure they aren't thrown a curve ball in the voting booth. Here is a link to the best district map I have seen: District Map Even if you don't live in District 4, you can help me win here by understanding its boundaries and mentioning my candidacy to your family and friends who live here. Feel free to forward or print and pass this document, too. ................................................................................ 3. Voter Registration Ends April 7! Voters in the May 6 Primary must be registered by 4:00 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2003. Forms are available at BookNation, both Coffee Grounds locations, the Post Office, the Public Library and many other places. Please help us make sure the District 4 voters that you know are registered and prepared to vote. For answers to questions about whether or not you are registered, address corrections, where forms are available, etc, call Voter Registration at 462-3393. ................................................................................ 4. Ways to Help #1 - Plan to Attend an Event Planning is underway now for a variety of Todd Nation for City Council events. Campaign Manager George Shumay, and Treasurer Tonya Pfaff, are scheduling April dates for informal, after-work parties at Frog's Bistro, the Coffee Grounds, and other venues. Watch for notices about these fundraisers, and choose one that is convenient for you. These should be fun, painless ways for you to show support for my candidacy. I hope you'll join us. ................................................................................ 5. Contact My Campaign As I stated in my first newsletter, this is a real-world campaign that will require an investment of time, money and effort to win. Please contact me with your offers to display or distribute yard signs, organize opportunities for me to meet your neighbors over coffee, help get my campaign literature out, etc. Call 232-2595, or email me at todd@toddnation.com Of course, contributions are always welcome--they can't come in too soon! Please make your check payable to "Todd Nation for City Council" and mail it to: Todd Nation for City Council |
