........................................................................ PRESS RELEASE: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Voter Registration Event Targets Citizens and Students A Voter Registration event this Thursday evening at the Coffee Grounds, 423 Wabash Avenue, will encourage students, Terre Haute newcomers, and those with questions about where they vote to get involved in the upcoming city Primary Election. Featuring free gourmet pizza from Frog's Pizzeria, "Student/Local Voter Registration Night" will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Volunteers will be on hand to register voters, explain the district and precinct boundaries, and help identify polling places for the May 6 Primary Election. With the Monday, April 7 voter registration deadline less than two weeks away, campaign committees are working feverishly to get voters signed up. Student/Local Voter Registration Night is the brainchild of George Shumay, owner of the Coffee Grounds and Campaign Manager for Todd Nation, candidate for City Council 4th District. Of the idea, Shumay said "I have daily contact with ISU students, faculty and staff who express little hope for meaningful community change and feel powerless. Our campaign wants to reach out to this huge block of voters who, if informed and motivated, could help change the face of local politics for the better." Todd Nation, owner of downtown Terre Haute's BookNation, is a first-time candidate for public office. Nation stated "The Fourth District is made up of Farrington's Grove, Downtown, ISU, and the neighborhood south of Union Hospital. I've spent most of my adult life living and working in this district, and I'm confident that I can represent my neighbors well as their City Councilman. This part of the city has so much potential, but most of it remains untapped. I'm ready to help prod city government into action, but we need to overcome the apathy that plagues citizens and students alike. Progress begins in the voting booth."
